The Best Vegetarian Christmas Appetizers

December 17, 2018 by Chelsea Kram – XO&So: Vegetarian Comfort Food 4 Comments

Christmas Appetizers. They’re often overlooked by their bigger cousin, Christmas dinner. But these appetizers are an important part of any holiday gathering. You don’t need an excuse to go all out on eating and making appetizers, but something about the season just makes overindulging that much more fun.

Cucumber Cream Cheese Toasts Appetizer

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here for me, but busy with all good stuff!

I haven’t been able to get any new recipes up lately, but over the next few weeks and into the new year, there will be tons of good new stuff coming your way…including my new obsession, mushroom pot pie with a puff pastry topping!

Ahhh!! I think Santa is bringing your girl a professional camera this year so I’ll be able to up my photography game and add better pictures to my website.

In the meantime, here are delicious, tried and true vegetarian Christmas appetizers to bring to any holiday gathering.

baked goat cheese dip
This is the most popular recipe EVER on my site and it's one I'm really proud of. It's the perfect appetizer for any occasion!
whipped garlic feta dip
Another crowd pleasing option from The Cozy Cook that you can serve with a variety of dippers, including chips, crackers, pretzels, or veggies.
Fresh Mozzarella and Basil Bites
Fresh mozzarella basil bites. Another appetizer from Return to Sundays that only requires a few ingredients and isn’t too tricky to make!
cranberry brie pull apart
The cranberries in this recipe from Half Baked Harvest make this extra festive, and brie and bread are a perfect combination to begin with. This is so good and disappears in seconds!
mushroom cheese puff bites
Sooo delicious and these mushroom cheese puff bites from Will Cook for Smiles take just five ingredients to make!
cucumber cream cheese toasts
These are a staple in my house anytime of year, but they’re especially perfect for the holiday season. They’re easy to make, easy to travel with, and a total crowd pleaser.

What appetizers do YOU plan on cooking up this holiday season? I’m always looking for more ideas!

One of the Christmas classic recipes I grew up with is Liptauer cheese. It's a paprika-infused cheese that you spread on crackers and it's one of my all-time favorite appetizers. I've actually never made it myself (my mom or grandparents always made it). But one day I am going to create my own version and I'll share my recipe with you once I do!

This Liptauer cheese spread is from Magnolia Days.

I always like serving a bit of a variety which is often hard for me. If it were up to me, I'd just serve 18 goat cheese appetizers because I love them so much! But having a mix of things with some fresh veggies, bread, cheese, and proteins is a nice way to make sure there's something for everyone to enjoy. It also adds color to your spread and makes it all look more appealing.

Merry Christmas!
