Behold: my mom's recipe for lemon fruit dip with sour cream! She made this all the time growing up and I always loved it. Recently, I realized I hadn't had it in years and I asked her for the recipe and I was delighted to find out it only requires four ingredients. It's so refreshing and delicious and it's also the perfect thing to serve at baby or bridal showers or when you're hosting a brunch.
Lemon Fruit Dip with Sour Cream
Here's all you'll need to make this fruit dip with sour cream:
- Sour cream (full fat — more on that in a minute)
- White sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Lemon (juice and zest!)
Light Sour Cream vs. Full Fat Sour Cream
Light sour cream usually has at least a 25% lower fat content than full fat sour cream, and maybe that sounds good at first glance. But in this case, we want alllll the fat we can get from the sour cream. That's because the downside with light sour cream is that it can be a bit watery, which can make your dip runnier than desired.
Full fat sour cream contains more fat but also more flavor; it will give your dip a creamy texture and will make the dip taste more robust. If you're looking for maximum flavor, full fat sour cream is definitely your best bet!!!
My pumpkin spice sliced baked apples are always a hit too.
Options
You can play around with adding more sugar and sour cream for a different consistency if you want a thicker dip. You can also add more vanilla if you want a stronger vanilla flavor. Finally, you can also zest two or more lemons if you want more "texture" in the dip.
Heads up though: I just wouldn't add more lemon juice though or the dip could get watery.
